COMSEC Custodian

Responsibilities
The COMSEC Custodian serves as a vault coordinator, providing guidance and continuity and an alternate authority for the COMSEC program. As COMSEC Custodian, the candidate is responsible for the proper handling, storage, packaging, shipment, and administration of all cryptographic materials. The COMSEC Custodian must be aware of the day-to-day activity regarding the COMSEC account and be familiar with COMSEC policy and procedure.

Principal Duties

  • Administration of the COMSEC account
  • Initiating action to correct any problems with the operation of the facility, equipment, or account
  • Coordinating orders for COMSEC equipment or keying materials
  • Receiving, receipting for, and ensuring safeguarding of all COMSEC material
  • Ensuring that accountable COMSEC materials are only issued to properly cleared and authorized individuals
  • Maintaining up to date COMSEC accounting and other related records and the submission of all required reports as specified
  • Performing routine destruction of accountable COMSEC material when required, or effecting other disposition as directed
  • Providing operational and technical advice to COMSEC users

Qualifications
Candidate must have specialized experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience should include work involving secure communications policy and operation and include the proper handling, storage, packaging, shipment and administration of cryptographic materials.

  • Completion of an accredited COMSEC training course
  • Working knowledge of national COMSEC doctrine and NSA policies in order to conduct COMSEC accounting, procedures and audits
  • Working knowledge of COMSEC keying material, equipment and use
  • Knowledge of hand held Secure voice equipment and device operation
  • Detailed knowledge of the STE phone and device operation
  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical assistance when required for COMSEC material
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing

All candidates must be US Citizens and be eligible to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance
