Insight Employee Spotlight

Al Fjerstad joined Insight Technology in 2001 as a Senior Information Technology professional. Since joining the Insight team, Al has been supporting the National Biomedical Computer System (NBCS) for the American Red Cross. This blood management computer system handles all aspects of blood processing for the nation’s premier blood banking organization. The National Biomedical Computer System controls the process from the time donors are scheduled to donate blood, through the donation process, the testing process and the distribution of blood components.

Al currently serves as the project manager for software services, maintaining the NBCS system. He started as a Project Quality Analyst, where he was the lead quality analyst for four releases, performed quality oversight for software services, and conducted quarterly audits of the development process. In commending Al for his contributions to the American Red Cross and the technology solutions company, Insight President Gary Anderson stated, “Al’s outstanding knowledge and understanding of the National Biomedical Computer System has proven invaluable to this project and is a positive reflection of the high caliber of our employees.”

Mr. Fjerstad served 20 years in the United States Air Force as a Cryptologic Linguist, holding numerous management positions and serving as a Master Instructor. He retired from the Air Force in June 1991. Al earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1989 from Angelo State University , San Angelo , Texas . In 1991, he received his Master of Business Administration, also from Angelo State University .

Al has become an avid runner and actively trains, despite the bitter cold of Minnesota winters. He ran his first marathon at Napa Valley in March 2007 and recently competed there again.
